RJ Learns the True Meaning of Fanfic | An Update on Other Projects

Things have been quiet around here and hyper-fixation is to blame on my part. But the good news is that I’m already popping some new ideas together and the radio silence is about to buzz back to life.
You see, about six weeks ago an idea hit me, and I decided to start writing my first fanfic. I was obsessed; I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was still streaming, still handling real life responsibilities, but in the back of my mind the fanfic was spinning and ideas wouldn’t stop coming. So, with the encouragement from friends and family, I decided to ride the inspiration wave and just dive right in. And it hasn’t stopped yet.
It’s not such a bad thing. I’m really enjoying what I’m doing and I believe I’m improving every day in my writing quality and finding my own style. But that also means that I’ve largely stopped playing games and, of course, I haven’t come up with a new article in six weeks. And left you lovelies hanging around the site without so much as a word to my disappearance.
Ikemen Prince(ss)
For those that I don’t speak to on a daily basis, let me inform you that I am always thirsty, and the Ikemen Princes are a group of 2D men I simp for especially hard. Let me skip ahead through the way a single comment from a friend snowballed into this fanfic project and just get to the project.
I’m writing a rewrite/reboot of Ikemen Prince in an AU with gender changes. Lovingly I’ve dubbed it Ikemen Princess, and yes, I know that doesn’t exactly work because I’m aware what ‘ikemen’ means. But I’m as much a fan of puns as I am of 2D men – which is to say A LOT.
The fanfic can be found on Ao3 (ArchiveOfOurOwn), a site dedicated to preserving fanfics and creative writing. I’ve completed the prologue to the original game in my AU world, provided notes on name changes, and recharacterized the people I wanted to. I’ve also posted 17 out of 29 planned chapters for Leanne Dompteur, originally known as Leon Dompteur in the OG game.
If you haven’t played Ikemen Prince before, you can still enjoy the fanfic because, since it’s a rewrite, I have to re-introduce all the new(ish) characters in their AU lives. And if you have played Ikemen Prince and genderbent characters are a weakness of yours (like they are mine) then I implore you to check it out.
Testing The Smut
After realizing that I really enjoyed creating stories, I decided to try my hand at some more “adult” writing. Yes, I wrote my first smut.
It wasn’t long after that that I found out there was a Smutember challenge in previous years, but this year there seems to be a lack in organizing it. In any case, I found someone who had created a prompt list, and I started writing more fanfic on my obsession current muse, Ikemen Prince.
Of course, we’re also headed into Kinktober, and I intend to participate in that as well. Essentially, I’m attempting a six weeks of smut challenge. I currently have three prompts from Smutember; these are NSFW so please be aware and mind the tags before you partake. I intend to do another 10 before the month is over, and of course I have several lined up for next month unless I get tired of writing gratuitous sex scenes.
What About Sweet & Spicy Reviews?
I don’t intend to leave S&SR, nor do I intend to stop playing otome games, or stop writing reviews on them. I simply have been preoccupied with these other projects, attempting to make the most of the single-minded focus while I can.
I am working on finding a better schedule and a more reasonable way to ensure I keep myself healthy and happy without running myself into the ground. I just haven’t found it yet. Before the month (September) ends, I do hope to have something worked out to balance play, hobby, work, and leisure. But like everything in life, we can’t plan for it all, and I’m just largely playing it by ear.
Thank You
