Soaking Wet Showdown | Obey Me! | Event Reviews

Become the ultimate squirter to unlock exclusive cards of the dripping wet Obey Me! boys in the new event, ‘Soaking Wet Showdown’!

Obey Me’s latest ‘pop quiz’ event features a new story that’s perfect for finishing summer with a bang. Battle with demons, angels, and a warlock, to come out on top in an all-out water gun fight in the streets of the Devildom.

“Can you become the ultimate squirter at the Splash Survival Hell Games?”

– Obey Me (Soaking Wet Showdown Event)

There is only one story route in this event; no keys, alternate endings, or story branches. There are two chapters, with 23 stages in each, combining for a total of 46 story and dance battle stages.

In addition to the exclusive event story, you can complete dance battles to collect ‘energy bars’, which are then exchanged for prizes. These prizes include six cards: UR Beelzebub’s Battle / Beelzebub; UR The Chaotic Overtime / Memory; SSR Eyes on Me! / Leviathan; SSR And the Winner Is…?! / Memory; SR Gold for Mammon / Mammon; and SR Give It Our All / Diavolo.

There are three pages of prizes you can receive, but it takes a lot of energy bars to get even to the end of the first page, so it’s recommended to unlock all of the stages as soon as possible and start clearing those dance battles!

Soaking Wet Showdown!
Game: Obey Me!
Event Type: Pop Quiz (Story with associated gacha and collection bonuses)
Duration: 25th August to 5th September 2021 (11 days)

If you’re determined to get the top prizes, you’ll need to spend some money as it’s impossible to get the final rewards for free, even if you use all your AP strategically. The best way to boost your scores is to collect ‘cheat cards’ from the ‘Festival Nights’ gacha, and use devil points to unlock extra battle attempts (and maybe replenish your AP while you’re at it!).

But, even if you don’t want to spend any money, or hours grinding away at the dance battle stages, you can simply read the story, collect a few energy bars, and see what prizes you get along the way~

Pop Quiz Events

Pop Quiz events in Obey Me! combine story, collection, and gacha events into one big package. In the case of ‘Soaking Wet Showdown’, there’s a unique water-gun-themed story, a variety of prizes to be won by collecting the event item (‘energy bars’), and the ‘Festival Nights’ gacha.

The three exclusive cards for this gacha count as ‘cheat cards’ for the pop quiz, which basically means winning them in the gacha boosts the number of energy bars you receive from completing dance battles. If you’re planning on playing hard in this event, I recommend rolling on the gacha, as the cheat cards make a noticeable difference to the energy bar drop amount.

I personally enjoy Obey Me’s pop quiz events, although it can be frustrating to know that the Page 3 UR card you’re dying for will require a lot of time (and potentially money) to acquire. I don’t ever try to get any prizes on Page 3 of the rewards list, and if I want something on Page 2, I make sure to get cheat cards and start grinding early to give myself the best chance that I can.

There is typically a card available at the end of the Page 1 list, which can be won comfortably for free if you remember to keep up with doing the three dance battles per stage each day.

Soaking Wet Showdown Review

It’s been a while since I properly participated in an Obey Me! event, as I’ve been busy with some new otome game releases the past couple of months, but I saw a few screenshots and memes on Twitter and decided now was a good a time as any to give the demon brothers some attention again.

I’m glad I did, as I had a lot of fun with the Soaking Wet Showdown event! I’ve finished the story and now I’m working on collecting some prizes, although I’m not aiming for anything beyond Levi’s SSR card at the end of the Page 1 rewards. To be honest, I don’t really need any new cards (I’m struggling to level up the ones I have!), so the item rewards are just as appealing to me at the moment.

Story

In the past, I’ve found it difficult to open up all of the event chapters quickly enough to focus on grinding for prizes, but with Soaking Wet Showdown, I easily burned through the entire story in about an hour. It helps that VIP players can now skip event dance battles (an update I am very grateful for), and that the branches, keys, and other complicating factors aren’t present in this event.

I also just had a lot of fun with the story. It doesn’t particularly get romantic at any point, which was a little bit disappointing as it’s a bunch of hot demons (and angel, and warlock) running around getting wet and sweaty, but it was exciting, funny, and surprisingly dramatic for a water gun fight.

MC and the main cast split off into two teams in a grand ‘battle royale’ that takes place in the streets of the Devildom. Your team’s strategy is to split up, so you do get some quality time with each of your favourites. You’re also often in pairs or threes, so there’s also plenty of opportunity for entertaining moments between the other characters.

I liked that it wasn’t complicated; just a fun, light-hearted, easy-to-read story about your favourite characters taking something as silly as a water gun fight way too seriously. I did feel that the second arc of the story was a bit unnecessary, but really it’s just more scenes of MC and the boys blasting each other (and some ghosts) with water.

Collection Bonuses

There are many, many rewards available in exchange for energy bars, so I won’t go through the entire list of items. You also can’t see the rewards on pages 2 or 3 until you claim all of the prizes on the previous page, so don’t be alarmed if you can’t tell exactly how many energy bars you’ll need for Beel’s UR card straight away.

Speaking of event cards, there are six new cards in Soaking Wet Showdown:

  • SR Give It Our All / Diavolo – Page 1
  • SR Gold for Mammon / Mammon – Page 1
  • SSR Eyes on Me! / Leviathan – Page 1
  • SSR And the Winner is…?! / Memory – Page 2
  • UR The Chaotic Overtime / Memory – Page 3
  • UR Beelzebub’s Battle / Beelzebub – Page 3

You collect the cards in parts, receiving enough parts to craft the full card at different parts of the event. If you don’t quite get enough card parts before the event ends, this doesn’t mean you’ve missed out on the card forever.

Obey Me! has a feature called ‘Lonely Devil’, which allows you to replay old events. Any progress you made with the energy bars is saved to the event, so when you pick it back up later, you can start where you left off. Events aren’t added to Lonely Devil straight away, but you will be able to continue collecting card parts in the future.

Gacha

The Festival Nights gacha has three exclusive cards that boost the number of energy bars you receive from completing dance battles in the pop quiz event. You receive one free summon, and you are guaranteed a copy of Satan’s UR+ card, “Cat Masks and Ramune” after a certain number of summons.

The three event cards are:

  • UR+ A Night to Remember / Lucifer
  • UR+ Cat Masks and Ramune / Satan
  • SSR My Wish / Luke

Final Thoughts

While it can be a lot of work to get the later prizes, Soaking Wet Showdown is a fun story with a huge range of rewards, even at the lower ends of the prize list. If you’re not trying to collect all the bonuses, you can still enjoy the silly scenes of your favourite characters blasting each other with water guns, and there’s a chance you’ll acquire some new cards along the way.

If you do want to win some of the harder prizes, I recommend getting a decent head start by unlocking all of the stages early, even if you skip the story parts for now and read them later. It’s also worth trying to get some cheat cards to give you a much-needed boost to your energy bar drop amount. If you clear all the dance battle stages three times a day, you should be able to get Levi’s new SSR card by the end of the event.

As for my personal opinion, I had fun reading the story, and I’m going to try and get Levi’s card, but I know from experience how draining it is to try and get any prizes past the first page. It is disappointing to see cards I want and know I won’t be able to get them unless I spend an enormous amount of time, energy, and money, but so long as I go into an event with the expectation that anything beyond the first page is a bonus, then I can just feel happy with anything I do win.

In short, I recommend playing Obey Me! events with realistic expectations of what you can win, so you can focus on enjoying yourself, rather than feeling disappointed or burning yourself out. And, if you’re more interested in the story than the prizes, Soaking Wet Showdown is a lot of fun, even if it’s not particularly romantic.
